CASPT 2025!

From June 30 – July 4, 2025, I attended the 16th International Conference on Advanced Systems in Public Transport (CASPT2025) in Kyoto, Japan. I also presented my research paper titled “Choice Sets and Smart Card Data in Public Transport Route Choice Models: Generated vs. Empirical Sets”. This study was conducted in collaboration with Filipe Rodrigues, Ravi Seshadri, and Carlos Lima Azevedo.

This study explores the use of Smart Card (SC) data to generate choice sets for multimodal public transport (PT) route choice models. Traditionally, these models rely on algorithms such as k-shortest paths, simulation, and labelling to generate potential routes, which are then used to estimate passenger behavior and forecast demand. However, these conventional methods often fail to capture the actual paths passengers choose, especially in complex urban networks with numerous route options. Using rich SC data from Denmark, we compare traditional and data-driven approaches for generating choice sets for public transport route choice models in complex networks.
